Demolition crews used about 120kg of explosives to destroy the Rinsdorf Viaduct on the German A45 autobahn near Wilnsdorf in North Rhine-Westphalia. Built 55 years ago, the bridge was about 500 meters long and 70 meters high.
The planned collapse of the structure occurred last Sunday at 11:00 local time. After demolition expert Michael Schneider gave the signal to explode, 16 bridge supports buckled and the spans collapsed to the ground.
The collapse was organized in such a way that the debris fell onto the prepared bed and did not damage the nearby new bridge, which opened in December 2021. Dozens of spectators gathered to watch the explosion from a safe distance. All demolition work took place according to a pre-approved plan.
