Rosatom will build a plant to produce batteries for electric vehicles
09/22/2021
In 5 years, a plant will appear in Russia for the production of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, electric buses and other electric vehicles.
The enterprise will be launched by the Rosatom corporation, and the plant will be built on the territory of the unfinished Baltic NPP in the Kaliningrad region. The project has a technology partner – the South Korean company Enertech International Inc, co-owned by Renera LLC, an industry integrator of Rosatom.
The project development plan provides for the launch of the plant in 2026. The total production capacity will be at least 3 GWh per year. For comparison, the estimated capacity of the Tesla Gigafactory under construction in Berlin is 250 GWh per year. However, as reported by Renera LLC General Director Emin Askerov, the company is considering developing production capacity up to 12 GWh, which will be necessary to implement current plans for the development of electric transport in Russia.
