The Toyota Hilux is the most popular model in Argentina in May.
The Argentinean new light vehicle market endures a -13.4% year-on-year loss in May to 32,709 sales, bringing the year-to-date tally off -21.9% to 144,524. Toyota (+2.9%) defies the negative market and breaks its share record at 25.4%, eclipsing its previous best of 25.3% hit last March. Volkswagen is also in great shape at +11.3% to 15.5% share. In contrast Fiat (-29.8%), Peugeot (-36%) and Renault (-40.6%) all fall heavily. In fact no other Top 10 member manage an uptick, with Nissan (-35.7%) and Citroen (-14.4%) losing share year-on-year and Ford (-5.6%), Chevrolet (-7.2%) and Jeep (-8.1%) containing their loss. Ram (+2523.1%!) shoots up to #12 overall with 1% share.
Over in the models lane, the Toyota Hilux (-9.5%) reclaims the overall lead for the first time this year with 7.8% share vs. 6.3% so far this year. The Peugeot 208 (-34.3%) is in great difficulty at #2 ahead of a surging Toyota Yaris (+182.5%). Still leader year-to-date, the Fiat Cronos (-48.4%) implodes to #4. The Toyota Corolla Cross (+65.4%), Toyota Corolla (+45.4%), Chevrolet Tracker and Ford Ranger (+16%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10. Just outside, the VW Nivus (+256.7%), Polo (+134.7%) and Taos (+56.1%) all lodge fantastic gains.
