The Toyota Prado ranks third in Australia in November.
New car sales in Australia fell year-on-year for the fourth month in a row in November, falling -9.3% to 101,707 units. Year-to-date volume remains at a record level, however, at 1,130,083, up 1.1% from the same period in 2023. A reliable indicator of consumer sentiment, private sales fell again this month, down -16.6% year-on-year to 47,247. This follows falls of -14.2% in October, -17.2% in September and -15.9% in August. Commercial vehicle sales are down -5.2% to 37,821, rental fleets are down -15.9% to 6,631 and government sales are down -2.3% to 3,078. All states and territories are in negative position: New South Wales from -10.1% to 31,229, Victoria from -6.9% to 27,569, Queensland from -10.2% to 21,772, Western Australia -9.3% to 10,590, South Australia – -7.7% to 6,719, Tasmania -18% to 1,658, Australia Capital Territory -11.8% to 1,436 and Northern Territory from -20.3% to 734.
Looking at sales by segment, SUVs held steady at -0.1% to 62,306 and a 61.2% share versus 55.6% in November 2023 and 55.1% in 2022. and 22.6% in 2022 and the passenger share of cars fell -21.3% to 14,543 and 14.3% versus 16.5% last year and 17.6% two years ago. Heavy commercials account for 4,314 and hold a share of 4.2%. Petrol sales were down -14.4% to 43,229, diesel sales were down 17.6% to 30,818, but hybrid sales were up 47% to 14,171 and PHEV sales were up 80.1% to 2,590. Finally , BEV sales fell -23.8% to 6,585 due to Tesla’s decline. In terms of country of origin, Japan leads again with 32,717 (+1%), followed by Thailand with 20,785 (-21.3%), China with 16,808 (-6.8%), South Korea with 12,011 (-9.2%) and Germany with 16,808 (-6.8%). 4740 (-12.8%).
Toyota limits its decline to -2.1% year-on-year to reach a share of 20.2%, slightly higher than the 19.7% it has year-to-date. Ford (+6.8%) maintains its 2nd place with a strong share of 8.6%, the same as last month. Mazda (-12.9%) struggles to complete the podium, while Kia (+11.1%) returns to fourth place, which it has also held since the start of the year. Mitsubishi (-1%) holds steady in fifth place, ahead of Hyundai (-16.6%) struggling in sixth place. MG (-9.5%) monitors the market and ensures that the top seven brands are identical to year-to-date brands. GWM (-3.1%) moved up to 8th place overall, a ranking record also achieved in December 2023. Among the sea of double-digit declines were Chery (+113.6%), Suzuki (+59.1%), Porsche (+37.8). %) and BYD (+23.5%).
On the model side, the Toyota RAV4 (+125.6%) takes its fifth consecutive monthly pole position, sixth this year after April and July., August, September and October. This is the eighth time the RAV4 has topped the Australian charts: add July 2020 and August 2020. Once again, this is not enough to dislodge the Ford Ranger (-20.9%) from first place year-to-date. In third place, up from 296th place last month, is the Toyota Prado (+16.2%) now that the new generation has finally arrived in dealerships. This is simply Australia’s highest ever ranking, eclipsing the 4th place it achieved in October 2020. Toyota Hilux (-39.5%) dropped to 4th place for the month. The MG ZS (+36.5%) performed well, moving up 6 places from last month to 5th place, while the Ford Everest (+97%) dropped two places to 6th place. , but doubled last year’s sales. The Kia Sportage (+13.3%) and Mitsubishi Outlander (+3.8%) also moved up the rest of the top 10.
