The Mitsubishi L200, aka Triton, became the best-selling car in Chile in February.
The Chilean new passenger car market accelerated its decline in February to -14.4% year-on-year at 22,450 units. This is the weakest February volume in the last 8 years. Since the beginning of the year, the figure has decreased by -11.6% to 47,567. In January and in the 2023 financial year, the positions of the top 4 brands remained unchanged: Toyota leads (-10.4%), followed by Chevrolet (-3.9% ). Hyundai (+4.6%), Kia (+19.7%) and Suzuki (+17.4%) defied the negative market with solid gains lower. GWM (+49.1%) easily has the largest gain in the top 10 (and the second largest in the top 20), with Ford (+11.9%) being the only additional gain in the top 10. MG (-9%) increases its share year-on-year, while Mitsubishi (-47.5%) and Peugeot (-26%) fall.
In terms of model, the Mitsubishi L200 (-56%) regains the lead despite a terrible drop, steadily moving away from last year’s and last month’s leader Toyota Hilux (+0.3%). The Chevrolet Groove (+4%) was once again the best-selling SUV in the country, moving up one spot from last month to third place. It is followed by the Maxus T60 (-27.8%), while the next six models all show double-digit growth. The most dynamically Kia Soluto (+31%) is ahead of GWM Poer (+21.9%), Peugeot Partner (+20%), Suzuki Swift (+15.2%), Baleno (+15.1%) and Hyundai Grand i10 (+31%). +12.8%).
