Seagull helps BYD enter the top ten in Colombia for the first time.
In October, 18,550 new cars hit Colombian roads, up 33.5% from last year. However, keep in mind that October 2023 was in a freefall of -38.5% from the previous year. As a result, October 2023 became the second lowest month in 10 years. Year to date, the figure is up 3.8% to 154,013. Renault (+31.1%) regains the top brand position for the first time this year and since September 2023 with 13.4%. It ends the month just three sales ahead of rising Kia (+101.3%), which moved up one position from September into second place. Toyota (+22.5%) lags the market and loses the top spot it held last month to third place. However, it remains No. 1 to this day. Chevrolet (-2.8%) suffers its only year-over-year loss in the top 15, but returns to No. 4, the same as it has been since the beginning of the year. Mazda (+19.6%) and Nissan (+29.3%) lag behind the market, in contrast to Hyundai (+292.6%) and Volkswagen (+72.3%). The best result of the month was demonstrated by BYD (+422.4%), entering the top ten largest companies in Colombia for the first time, taking 10th place.
In terms of model, the new Kia K3 takes pole position for the first time ever with a 3.5% share, beating the lagging Mazda CX-30 (+1.9%) by just 5 sales. The Kia Picanto (+56.3%) is one unit behind in third place. Renault Duster (+2.5%) is also significantly behind the market and remains in 4th place against 3rd since the beginning of the year and in 1st place throughout 2023. Last month’s leader, Toyota Corolla Cross (+478.4%), is falling. to fifth place, despite an increase compared to last year. The Corolla Cross gives way to first place since the beginning of the year to the Mazda CX-30. Good results were shown by Toyota Prado (+43.4%) in sixth place and Mazda2 (+35%) in eighth place. Among recent launches, the Renault Arkana ranks 12th behind the K3, ahead of the Renault Kardian (14th), BYD Seagull (22nd) and Yuan Up (30th).
