France February 2024: Stellantis (+21%) shines in market up 13%

New car sales in France rose 13% year-on-year in February to 142,597 units, but this was still -15% below the pre-pandemic February 2020 figure of 167,785. Year-to-date volumes were up 11.2% to 264,881. Gasoline sales were up 2% year-on-year to 48,075 and 33.7% versus 37.3% a year earlier; diesel fell -30.5% to 10 221 and 7.2% versus 11.7% in February 2023, HEVs grew 41.5% to PHEV share rose 18.6% to 11,738 and 8.2% versus 8.3% and BEV share rose by 32% to 25,872 and 18.1% versus 15.5% a year ago.

Peugeot (+10.8%) repeats first place with a share of 15.6%, leaving Renault (+9.9%) on the sidelines. In fact, Stellantis was the big winner of the month, with total sales up 21% on last year thanks to strong results from Citroen (+29.7%) taking third place overall for the first time since March 2023, Fiat (+69.8% ). ), Opel (+24.2%), Jeep (+116.9%) and Alfa Romeo (+48.9%). After a record January, Dacia (-1.5%) dropped to 4th place with a share of 8.2% versus 9.7% since the beginning of the year. Toyota (+21.7%) is also very firmly in fifth place with a 7.1% share, remaining above Volkswagen (-0.6%). BMW (+45.2%) and Kia (+22.5%) also shine in the rest of the top 10. Note that Tesla is down -3.9%.

In the model rankings, the top four outperformed the market: the Peugeot 208 (+37.8%) extended its year-end lead with a strong 7% share, followed by the Renault Clio (+31.1%), Citroen C3 (+31.1%) . +60.9%) and Dacia Sandero (+23.1%). In contrast, the Peugeot 308 (-7.5%), Renault Captur (-3.6%) and Peugeot 2008 (-4.8%) underperform. The Toyota Yaris (+31.7%) is the best-selling foreign, ahead of the locally produced Toyota Yaris Cross (+21.5%) and the Fiat 500 (+33%). Renault Austral (+15.1%) returned eight places from last month to 12th place, while Citroen C4 (+33.8%) moved up 7th place to 15th place. In 16th place, Tesla Model Y fell by -20.2%.
