Peugeot 208 sales are up 385.7% year-on-year in October.
231,992 new cars found a buyer in Germany in October, an encouraging +5.9% year-on-year uptick. We however remain -18.5% below pre-pandemic October 2019 (284,593). The year-to-date tally is still in negative, slightly, at -0.4% to 2,348,066. This is -22.3% below the same period in 2019 (3,024,751). BEV sales drop -4.9% year-on-year in October to 35,491 and 15.3% share vs. 17.1% in October 2023, and are off -26.6% year-to-date to 311,881 and 13.3% share vs. 18% last year.
Volkswagen (+26.2%) compensates for low year-ago results and lodges a splendid lift to 18.9% share, in line with the 19.1% it holds year-to-date. Mercedes (+5%) perks up to 10% share, its highest since January. In a Top 6 unchanged on last month and YTD, Skoda (+28.9%) fares best at #4 followed by Opel (+16.7%) and BMW (+4.9%) whereas Audi (-19.8%) continues to crater at #5. Toyota (+48.6%) scores another very solid performance at #6 but it’s Peugeot (+130.1%) that manages the largest gain in the Top 10 and Top 30.
The VW Golf (+38.4%) reclaims the top spot in the models charts but remains way below its YTD level at 3% share vs. 3.6% so far this year. After managing its first ever win last month, the Tiguan (+61%) drops to #2 but still surges year-on-year. The T-Roc (+29%) completes the podium, up two spots on September. The Opel Corsa (+29.6%) and Astra (+73%) round out the Top 5, both in excellent shape. Below the Skoda Octavia (+13.9%), the BMW X1 (+34.4%) advances to #7, its best ranking so far this year. The Skoda Enyaq (+28.4%) manages a third ever Top 10 finish at #9 after last month (#9) and November 2023 (#8). The Toyota Yaris/Cross (+57.1%) soars to #11, its best finish since January 2023 (#8) while the Peugeot 208 (+385.7%) skyrockets 33 ranks on September to #13, the nameplate’s highest ranking in almost 7 years: since December 2017. The VW ID.7 (+1240.9%) lodges a 2nd consecutive Top 20 finish at #19.
