Iceland May 2024: Kia #1 brand, Dacia Duster confirms domination

Kia Sportage takes second place in Iceland in May.

There were 2,008 new cars on Icelandic roads in May, which is 22.1% less than last year. The year-to-date figure is down -38.3% to 4,753. This month, Kia (+2.5%) is the top-selling carmaker with a share of 18.3%, and also moves up to pole position year-to-date with 13. 8% of the market. Last month’s leader Hyundai (+200%) dropped to second place, but increased compared to last year. Toyota (-53.8%) is in free fall in third place with a 13.2% share. Dacia (+46%), Suzuki (+227.3%) and Skoda (+123%) are challenging the market with fantastic growth. Land Rover (+11.3%) also rose, with KG Mobility (formerly SSangyong) soaring 5,100% year-on-year to rank 9th. Tesla (-90.2%) took first place in 2023 and fell all the way to 12th place for the month and -86.5% to 9th place year-to-date. The Dacia Duster continues to dominate the model rankings with an 8.4% share this month, ahead of the Kia Sportage and Hyundai i20. Kia also ranks the Stonic at 4th place and the Hyundai i10 at 5th place.
