Toyota Hilux is now taller than Kia Frontier.
New car sales in Iraq rose 42.1% year-on-year in H1 2024 to 74,249 registrations. Toyota (+76.9%) is now the most popular brand with a 28.8% share, compared to 23.2% in the same period in 2023. Kia (+37%) dropped to 2nd place with 27.4% of the market, compared to 28.4% a year earlier. Hyundai (+73.7%) also improved its share notably to 14.3%, compared to 11.7%. MG sales appear to have peaked, as the Chinese brand fell -13.6% year-on-year to just 7% share, compared to 11.5% in H1 2023. However, it remains in 4th place. Suzuki (+79.8%) and GWM (+114.5%) also outperform the rest of the Top 10, with Nissan again in 9th place.
In terms of models, Toyota Hilux (+74.7%) is far ahead of Kia Frontier (+31.4%) with a share of 11.2% versus 9.8% for the Korean model. Hyundai Tucson (+108.5%) rose four positions in the first half of 2023 to #3, knocking Kia Sorento (+55.2%) and Toyota Corolla (+12.4%) off their stride. MG 5 (-29.3%) dropped four positions to #8 and became the only Top 10 participant in the negative ranking. Great Wall Wingle (+148.5%) breaks into the Top 10, taking #10.
