There were 128,691 new cars in Norway in 2024, with the annual figure only turning positive in November. This is still a mediocre result considering that sales in 2023 fell -27.2% compared to the previous year. The main characteristic of the Norwegian market is the world’s best acceptance of electric vehicles. Indeed, in 2024, electric vehicle sales rose 9.4% to 114,409, up a whopping 88.9%, up from 82.4% last year and 79.3% in 2022. Meanwhile, PHEV sales fell -65.7% to 3,489 and 2.7%, down from 8% a year ago. and HEVs fell -9% to 6,869 and 5.3% versus 6% in 2023. Overall, with 124,767 sales, electrified cars account for 97% of the Norwegian market in 2024, up from 96.4% in 2023, 93.3% in 2022, 40.2% in 2017 and 7% in 2023. 2012 The share of diesel is 2.3%, gasoline – 0.8%.
Tesla (-4.5%) continues to be the dominant force in the market, but its share has dropped from 20% to 18.9%. MG (+38.4%) is the best performer in the top ten, up two places to 10th, while Audi (+18%) is also very strong, while Nissan (+5.8%) and Hyundai (+5 .5%) are also ahead of the market. Skoda (-15%) is experiencing difficulties. Further down, BYD (+93%) climbed five places to 13th place, and Xpeng (+153.5%) rose 7th to 15th place.
For the first time in Norwegian history, Tesla achieves a perfect 1-2 result: Model Y (-27%) takes first place with a 13.1% share, up from 18.2% last year, and Model 3 rises 248.7% to second places with 5.6%. % versus just 1.6% in 2023. Model Y won seven months, while Model 3 won none. Ranking third after its launch in December 2023, the Volvo EX30 (+120383.3%) became an instant blockbuster in Norway and even took the top spot in April and May. This again makes Norway the only country in the world where this model is successful.
