Switzerland Full Year 2024: Tesla Model Y, Skoda Octavia and VW Tiguan on top

Tesla Model Y takes first place in Switzerland for the third year in a row.

New car sales in Switzerland in 2024 were down 5% year-on-year to 239,535 units. 4×4 SUV registrations fell -3.2% to 124,568 and a 52% share, down from 51% in 2023. Petrol sales were down -17.1% to 69,527 and 29% down from 33.3% last year, while diesel was down just -4.1% to 22,530 and a 9.4% share versus 9.3%. HEVs soared 17% to 80,513 and shares 33.6% versus 27.3%, PHEVs fell -10.4% to 20,801 and 8.7% to 9.2%, and BEVs fell -12.5 % to 46,141 and 19.3% to 20.9%.

Volkswagen’s share (-15.1%) has slipped to around 10%, remaining the No. 1 brand, but it has been challenged this year. BMW (+2.5%) held the top spot in January, February, May and August, topping the year-to-date charts through the end of May. For its part, Skoda (-0.2%) took first place for only the second time in history in April. Mercedes (+1.9%) overtakes Audi (-11.5%) and takes 4th place. The next five automakers are performing positively, with Volvo (+23.3%) by far the strongest, rising five places from last year to 7th place. Hyundai (+4.8%), Renault (+3%), Tesla (+2%) and Toyota (+0.9%) are also strong.

On the model side, Tesla Model Y (+6.9%) scores its third annual win in a row and increases its share to 2.8%. Model Y was No. 1 in February, March, June, August and September. The Skoda Octavia (+9.3%) climbed one place year-on-year to second place, topping the charts in January, April and May, while the VW Tiguan (+17.4%) rose two places to third place , taking first place in October. , November and December. The Mercedes GLC (+19%) and BMW X1 (+18.9%) moved up four places to 4th and 5th respectively, followed by the Audi Q3 (1st in July). The Volvo EX30 ends its first full year of sales in 12th place, but reached 3rd place in August.
