Review Turkey’s historical data for over 30 years here.

Turkish buyers continue to rush to buy a car amid high inflation, hoping that its value will rise over time. Indeed, sales of new passenger cars in Turkey will reach another annual record in 2024 with 1,238,509 units (+0.5%), and only the second time in history the annual volume exceeds 1 million. This follows a record high in December (170,149 sales, +7.3%, the highest monthly figure ever) as the market was still in negative territory at the end of November. Monthly records were reached in January-March, August, November and December.

Fiat (-28.3%) remains the most popular automaker in the country, despite a daunting year-on-year decline. Its share has fallen from 15.7% to 11.2% and is now being teased by Renault (-1.5%) at 10.8%. Fiat’s sales were better in May, September, October, when it fell to 4th place, and December. Ford (+2.5%) and Volkswagen (+9.2%) remain firmly lower, with Peugeot (-6.5%) rounding out the top five unchanged for 2023. Hyundai (+7.1%) outperforms Opel (-15.4%), Citroen (-3%) and Toyota (+3.2%). Chery (+40.5%) entered the top ten at No. 10, peaked at No. 4 in June, and has been in the top five for four consecutive months. Local electric vehicle maker Togg (+53.7%) climbed to 14th place with over 30,000 sales and entered the top 10 in April and May. And all this with just one model. Rising 893% to 26th place, BYD reached 11th place in December.

In terms of model, the Fiat Egea Sedan (-27%) scores its ninth annual win in a row, a streak that began in 2016, but its share falls to 6% from 8.3% a year ago. The Renault Clio (-13.1%) is also struggling with a 5.2% share, but has taken the reins of the market five times to the Egea Sedan’s seven. These two champions are the only ones who managed to score at least one victory this year. Renault Megane Sedan (+14.9%) and Toyota Corolla Sedan and Estate (+4.4%) rose to 3rd and 4th places, respectively. Tiggo T10X (+53.7%) climbed to an outstanding 5th place overall and even reached second place in April and May and reached the podium five times.
