Vietnam June 2024: Ford Ranger takes the lead

Ford Ranger is the most popular car in Vietnam in June.

Local association VAMA saw the Vietnamese new car market grow 11.7% year-on-year to 26,575 sales, bringing the year-to-date figure down -1.8% to 134,884. Those figures increase to 31,622 (+9.4%) and 159,265 (-0.4%) when adding Hyundai, which reports separately from VAMA. Note that local manufacturer VinFast has stopped reporting monthly sales.

Hyundai (-1.2%) reclaims the pole position it has held since the start of the year, despite a slight year-on-year decline. Toyota (+1.7%) drops to 2nd place, ahead of Thaco-Kia (-0.9%), both relatively stable. Ford (+6%) still can’t quite catch up with the market’s growth, while Mitsubishi (+28.7%) is showing stellar growth. Peugeot (+55.1%) is also impressive further down.

In terms of models, the Ford Ranger (-9%) takes the top spot for the second time this year after last February, knocking the Mitsubishi Xpander (-3.7%) down to third place in a month. The Xpander remains the best-selling car since the start of the year, but is only 30 units ahead of the Ranger. The Mazda CX-5 (+1%) climbed four places in May to second place, the new Mitsubishi Xforce moved up to fifth place and the Ford Everest (+61.8%) climbed to sixth place.
