Toyota Yaris Cross ranks sixth in Vietnam in October.

According to local association VAMA, the Vietnamese new car market grew 52.8% year-on-year in October to 38,761, pushing the year-to-date figure up 12.3% to 264,346. These figures will rise to 46,400 (+ 41.3%) and 312,892 (+10.2%) including Hyundai, which reports separately from VAMA. The reason for this surge in the market is the government’s adoption of a 50 percent property tax cut. Also keep in mind that October 2023 was -26.6% lower than a year earlier, so the comparison set is small.

Toyota (+116.2%) is well ahead of the growing market to 18.8% versus 15.7% YTD, overtaking Hyundai (+2.4%) YTD to take pole position. Thaco-Kia (+14.7%) lags in third place, ahead of fast-rising Ford (+65%) and Mitsubishi (+79.1%), Honda (+67.9%) and Isuzu (+53.9%) ) also shine.

In terms of model, the Mitsubishi Xpander (+66.9%) takes its sixth win this year with a 4.6% share, ahead of the Mazda CX-5 (-8.5%), the same as last month. The Ford Ranger (+27.5%) moved up three places on last month, ahead of the Toyota Vios (+20.1%) to take third place on the podium. The Honda City (+122.4%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (+542.6%) fly lower, while the new Mitsubishi Xforce slowly slips to 7th place (-3 in September) as the launch honeymoon period gradually fades ends. The remaining ten also include Toyota Corolla Cross (+342.3%) and Ford Everest (+69.9%).

Previous month: Vietnam, September 2024: Mitsubishi Xpander regains leadership in a growing market (+37.5%)
