Bumper repair. Recovery technology
The bumper is one of the most easily damaged parts. It is easily damaged even from a small collision with an obstacle, thereby protecting the body from more serious damage. Fortunately, repairing a bumper costs significantly less than buying a new one. Purchasing a new spare part can be difficult, especially if the car has already been discontinued.
Thanks to modern technologies, almost any damage to the bumper can be repaired.
Scratches are considered the mildest defect. If they are not deep and the paint is not damaged, then they can be dealt with using ordinary polishing paste. If the depth of the defect reaches the plastic layer, then the scratch will have to be sanded down to an even state. The treated area is primed and the bumper is painted. Despite the fact that scratches at first glance seem harmless, you should not delay their removal, as over time they can turn into cracks.
The second type of damage is a dent. This term refers to a change in the geometry of the bumper under strong mechanical influence. The dent can be simple or complicated. When idle, there are no cracks or chips, just a dent. You can straighten it by heating the damaged area with a hair dryer. The softened plastic is carefully squeezed out from the wrong side until it takes its original shape. The procedure can be carried out with or without removing the bumper from the car.
Cracks are considered the most serious defect. They are through fractures in the bumper, formed during a collision with an obstacle. Cracks can be either independent or associated with chips. Repairing cracks is more difficult to organize, however, it should be done immediately, since vibrations that occur when driving a car provoke crack growth, which can lead to the bumper becoming unmaintainable.
There are different methods for repairing cracks. Depending on the material from which the bumper is made and the extent of the damage, a hot air gun, liquid polymer or fiberglass can be used. If the destruction is very large-scale, then reinforcement can be applied.
Choosing the right repair method is very important, since the strength of the bumper in the future depends on it. This type of repair should be trusted only to professional craftsmen, for example, WEBER-AUTO car service technicians
