Ram Trucks Australia has recalled 1300 examples of the Ram 2500 and 3500with a faulty diesel particulate matter sensor potentially leading to a loss of power.

The recall affects Ram 2500 and 3500s converted to right-hand drive in Australia by American Special Vehicles – a Melbourne based company that converts the Rams to right hand drive before the vehicles reach the market.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the diesel particulate matter sensor may not have been installed during assembly,” the company says in its recall notice.

“This could increase vehicle emissions and block the diesel particulate filter. If this occurs it can limit the vehicle power and performance leading to engine stalling.

“A loss in power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”

The reality is accidents are unlikely but its more about the fact that a brand new vehicle is presenting with a fault and Ram is doing the right thing and rectifying it.

Ram is stating its a safety issues, which it may well be, yet experts are raising eyebrows around the increasing number of manufacturers who are struggling to comply with Australia’s strict emission laws.

This is the latest manufacturer to face recall ramifications for emissions related hardware or software. The casualties of the emissions scandals, compliance regulating continue to grow as VW, Toyota, Jeep and Ram are all victim to strict emission laws in Australia.
