The Ram 1500 Could last 500,000 kms

According to J.D.Power, the 2023 Ram 1500 has a reliability ranking of 88 out of 100, which is great. This is actually one of the highest reliability scores ever seen.

an average vehicle would rank between 81 and 90. Anything in the 90s is considered exceptional. To land at 88 is so close to being in the exceptional bracket but just missed the mark.

For comparison’s sake, the 2023 Toyota Tundra earned a 78, which is average, the 2023 Toyota Tacoma got an 83, and the regular Ram 1500 earned a score of 80.

But not every Ram 1500 makes this rating. The predecessor to the 2023 vehicles are not quite as good. Ram trucks from 2003 up to and including the 2013 models with the 5.7-liter V8 engine, and models from 2014 – 2016 are seen as the most unreliable options of the brand but still rated well.

Ram truck reliability really started to improve in 2019, when the current Ram 1500 generation was launched. The Ram Classic has maintained a solid build quality for years, and it’s still popular. That’s why it still exists.

The research found that the average Ram 1500 in the USA lasts between 250,000 and 300,000 miles. Converted into kilometres that’s 400,000 kms up to 480,000 kms. Impressive numbers that rival almost all manufactures currently on the Australian market. In some extreme cases some examples with regular care and proper maintenance have surpassed 350,000 miles (560,000 kms)

This transpires to a forecast lifetime of roughly 20 years if your racking up 24,000kms a year.

Unfortunately for owners this durability is not transpiring into resale value as much as other vehicles on the used car market. Teh Ram 1500 is not holding its value as well as other utes and thus are depreciating quicker than expected.

Ram 1500 models between one to five years old had an average year-over-year price decrease of $3,204, which is a 10.4% decrease. (US dollars)

So, if you want a truck to maintain its value after five years of ownership, the Ram is probably not the best pick for you. Lets be honest, who is buying a Ram 1500 for its resale value?
