Murn set out to simply replace old EV charging stations on a newly acquired property, but after learning the value to residents, Murn quickly turned EV charging into a ‘necessary amenity with intrinsic value’ on all their properties.
Located in Maryland, Murn Properties is an industry leader in multifamily development. With more than 2,500 units in their portfolio, Murn leverages their industry expertise and strategic relationships to build high-quality apartment homes that provide their residents with the attentive, caring, and committed service they deserve.
The Challenge
Enriching the lives of its residents and fostering a sense of community are Murn Properties philosophies. After acquiring a property with 5 pre-existing charging stations in Montgomery County, the property management company initially struggled with traditional charging station maintenance and repairs, which ultimately lead to non-working EV charging stations for their residents. On top of the 5 pre-existing charging stations needing repair, there was a growing number of requests for more charging station options from residents across their portfolio.
With the need to replace pre-existing charging stations and to meet the growing demand for EV chargers from residents, Murn Properties began its quest for a long-term partnership with a solutions provider.
“We, as a company, don’t look at service providers as vendors. We look at them as partners We look to forge relationships with individuals that will be mutually beneficial in the long term.”
– Keith Gillan, President, Murn Management
The Opportunity
Installing EV charging infrastructure will support demands and increase resident satisfaction while making Murn Properties highly desirable for future residents. It also increases property value by adding an amenity-based opportunity, which Murn Properties doesn’t see as a money-making venture. With that mindset, they are taking the competitive advantage approach where they see this as increasing resident satisfaction, leading to resident retention, and the overall marketability of the community.
