According to greencarreports.com, the Japanese auto giant is preparing to invest $13.5 billion in the development of new batteries that will allow
reduce the cost of batteries and electric vehicles in general. The plans are to achieve the goal by 2030.

New batteries are already under active development and may be equipped with bZ4X crossovers as early as 2022.

Toyota predicts that changing the design of batteries and the materials used in batteries will reduce the cost by 20%, and another 30% of the cost of an electric vehicle can be “removed” by installing smaller capacity batteries. To maintain the range, engineers are faced with the task of reducing energy consumption per kilometer by 30%.
