Daimler will be renamed Mercedes-Benz

On February 1, the German concern Daimler AG will be officially renamed Mercedes-Benz Group AG. This step was announced a year ago.

The change is the latest in a string of structural changes for the automaker, which began life as Daimler-Benz AG in 1926. In December 2021, as part of the reorganization, the production of trucks and buses was separated from Daimler into a separate enterprise, Daimler Truck AG. Since then, Daimler AG has been producing only Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

As Reuters reported, the Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and the head of Mercedes-Benz, Ola Källenius, expects that after the renaming the value of the concern, which is currently valued at almost 77 billion euros, will increase significantly. It is assumed that the “new” name will be associated with electric vehicles and digital technologies. However, to achieve this, Mercedes-Benz still has to abandon internal combustion engines in favor of electric power plants.
