The owner of the pickup truck parked the car, a 2014 Nissan Frontier, at the side of the road and went to the party. Around 10 p.m., the man noticed the car was missing and contacted the police for help.
As The Register Mail reported, it was possible to determine the location of the Nissan thanks to an application for searching for Apple devices, in this case, headphones left in the cabin. Arriving at the specified coordinates, the police found a whole and undamaged car. AirPods, by the way, were still in their place.
However, modern devices for finding lost things also have a drawback. For example, Apple AirTags are used by hijackers for their illegal activities. They plant “beacons” in the cars of interest while they are in public places, track them, and then steal them from local areas at night. Canadian police have even issued a list of recommendations to combat such thefts.
