The 2023 Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) will be held exclusively in Doha, Qatar. The event, scheduled in Geneva for February 2023, will not take place, organizers announced.
“Due to the uncertainty in the global economy and geopolitics, as well as the risks associated with the development of the pandemic, the organizers have decided to focus exclusively on planning for the Doha 2023 event,” said Maurice Turettini, President of the Standing Committee of the Geneva Motor Show.
The original plan of the organizers was to hold GIMS 2023 in two stages: the first from 14 to 19 February 2023 at the Palexpo in Geneva, and the second – for the first time in history – in November in Doha, Qatar.
“We have done everything possible to hold GIMS 2023 in Geneva in February. The expanded format of the event and the project were very well received. But in the end, the risks outweighed the opportunities,” added Maurice Turettini.
The first, as strange as it may sound, the Geneva International Motor Show in Qatar, will take place in November 2023 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC), as well as several other venues. Exact dates will be announced later. In the future, the event is planned to be held in Qatar every two years.
Typically, the Geneva Motor Show is held annually in March, at the Palexpo exhibition center, located next to Geneva Cointrin International Airport. The last exhibition was held there in 2019, after which GIMS was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the global chip shortage in the automotive industry.
