An American electric vehicle manufacturer opens a representative office in Turkey. Sales of all four models are planned, as well as the development of charging and service infrastructure.

Tesla has created a new legal entity in Turkey, Tesla Motorları, with an authorized capital of 50 million liras (3.7 million US dollars). Kemal Geçer, who previously served as General Director of Lufthansa in Turkey and Iraq, has been appointed General Director of the representative office. The executive director is Emir Tunçyürek, a former consultant for the electric vehicle publication InsideEVs in Turkey and co-founder of E-Garaj, an electric car sales and service company.

In a new country for Tesla, four models of electric vehicles will be sold: the Model 3 sedan, the Model S liftback, and the Model Y and Model X crossovers. However, official prices have not yet been announced.

According to Turkish media, Elon Musk’s company also plans to create a network of stores and service centers in Turkey. In addition, the installation of Tesla Supercharger fast charging stations will begin, and judging by the information on the Tesla website, the first devices will appear in 10 provinces: Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Edirne, Balikesir, Antalya, Aydın, Konya and the Hendek region of the northwestern province of Sakarya . Charging stations will be launched in easily accessible places such as highways and shopping centers.

Sales of electric vehicles in Turkey are still weak, but the market segment is growing rapidly. According to the local Automotive Distributors Association (ODD), 2,846 electric vehicles were sold in the country in 2021, up 237% from 2020. In December 2021 alone, sales of battery-powered vehicles grew 56% year-on-year to 431 units.

By the way, in Ukraine in 2021, 8,872 electric vehicles were registered, which is 19% more than in 2020. Of these, 14% were new, the rest were used from other countries.
